
Dr. Joe Bertone DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM is currently a professor of equine medicine at Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine and an adjunct professor at California Polytechnic Institute, Pomona CA. Dr. Bertone, along with his colleague Dr. Hoyt, were the Veterinary advisors to the IEBWA’s pilot research project conducted in 2009 at the Equine Research Center at Cal Poly.
As a teacher of future veterinarians, Dr. Bertone feels his main job is to give his students the tools to continue learning beyond school. He is also on the faculty of Equinology, INC. He is the editor, along with Linda J.I. Horspool, of Equine Clinical Pharmacology and is the author of many academic articles, papers, and presentations. Dr. Bertone received his DVM and BS degrees (nutrition concentration) from Cornell University (1983). He completed a residency-training program, and a MS degree at Colorado State University. He served on the faculties of Louisiana State University and The Ohio State University, in addition to the Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine. He was recently nominated for the AVMA Council on Biologics and Therapeutic Agents, representing equine practice.
